12/31/2023 0 Comments Persona 4 golden review![]() Simply put, as native ports for the Xbox Series X and S, Persona 4 Golden’s graphics absolutely pop when in 4K. ![]() Still, one second longer, and you’ll see that this is probably the most outstanding a master of such a game could look. Originally home to the PS2 in 2008 as Persona 4 before being revamped for PS Vita as the advanced 2012 Golden, P4G does show its age at first glance. Thankfully, for new and even returning players, P4G takes its time in the 90 minutes to 2 hours kicking off the story - building up intrigue whilst you slowly get to know the cast and the mystery surrounding the town, maximising your investment for when the plot shifts gear. Persona 4 Golden has many layers to its story, gameplay, and the worlds surrounding them both. These killings are surrounded by the rumour of the Midnight Channel - where looking into the television on a rainy night meets a person with their soulmate - actually ends up with victims being taken to another world and meeting their death.Īs you and your new friends investigate and hunt for the truth, exploring otherworldly dungeons and taking on demon-esque Shadows with the power of your monster-like Personas, you’ll also explore Inaba itself and forge incredible heartfelt bonds along the way. In your new rural home town of Inaba, a string of mysterious murders start after your arrival. Persona 4's protagonist is really the only character that doesn't feel quite as fleshed out or interesting, but that's because they are a silent proxy for the player. With the upgrades solely being graphical and quality-of-life improvements, the classic tale of the 2012 Persona 4 Golden remains the same. They don't talk or act like generic JRPG characters they all have their own distinct, multilayered personalities and don't fall into any of the archetypes. Persona 4 Golden successfully blends the page-turning suspense of a mystery novel with the quirky aesthetic of a JRPG.Ĭarrying this story is Persona 4's tremendous cast of brilliantly-written characters that come across as genuine people. Despite how ridiculous the general premise is, the writing is sharp and the game is constantly introducing startling new story revelations to keep players hooked. The kids use this ability to save people from being killed by mysterious shadows, while also trying to solve the murders that have been going on around town. Persona 4 Golden is set in the small town of Inaba, and it follows a group of high school students that gain the ability to travel to a different dimension through their television sets. Persona 4 Golden's gameplay is great, but what makes the game truly addicting is its story. ![]() However, players have a limited amount of time to work with each day, so it's necessary to plan ahead. Players can fill their days completing various activities and building their relationships, with benefits that translate to combat and actually progressing the main story. Making an effort to improve the "Social Links" between the main character and the rest of the cast will give players significant advantages in battle, and so pursuing this side content is worthwhile. Persona 4 Golden hits its stride once players are given free rein over each day. ![]() However, those that stick with Persona 4 Golden will be rewarded for their efforts, as the game eventually becomes impossible to put down. Persona 5 was a little faster-paced, so those who started with that game may find it difficult to get into Persona 4 Golden initially. It takes about two and a half to three hours before players will even get to the first dungeon. Persona games are notorious for starting slow, and Persona 4 Golden is admittedly one of the most egregious.
